In addition to the affixed stamp and the commemorative postmark for the date of issue, the left-hand side of the cover features an overprint relating to the stamp’s subject matter. A famous 14th-century Gothic painting of the Virgin Mary with the Infant Jesus. This rare work is associated with Prague’s Vyšehrad, a legendary site linked to the beginnings of Czech history. The painting is on permanent display at the Convent of St. Agnes in Prague’s Old Town.
