This premium sheet brings the fascinating world of medieval murals to life. This exclusive issue masterfully combines three rare historical treasures into a single harmonious whole. The unifying motif of the entire sheet is a breathtaking painting from the Church of St Anne in Prague, which draws on the tradition of the so-called ‘Beautiful Style’ and is attributed to the famous Master of the Třeboň Altarpiece.
The postage stamps themselves then feature two further architectural and artistic masterpieces:
The first stamp depicts a rare, well-preserved painting of the Crucifixion originating directly from the imperial oratory at Karlštejn Castle. This 14th-century work adorned the private quarters of Emperor Charles IV himself and exudes immense spiritual power.
The second stamp offers a glimpse of a delicate detail from the life of St Margaret. It is a truly unique historical artefact that remained hidden beneath layers of plaster for many centuries and was only recently discovered during the restoration of the castle in Velké Meziříčí in 2010.
Why choose this particular sheet:
Karlštejn Royal Residence: A unique opportunity to own an artistic gem associated with the most significant and most visited Czech castle.
Secrets revealed by time: A fascinating link between Prague’s history and centuries-old hidden frescoes that have only seen the light of day in modern times.
A luxurious collector’s item: An elegant, intricate and highly valuable memento of medieval mysticism, exuding centuries-old tranquillity and the traditions of the Old Continent.
